Eiffel Tower Illumination
One of the effects of light in the world is to increase social interaction. A prime example of this is the illumination of the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge in Istanbul. It has been observed to change the city's identity and revitalize tourism. Unfortunately, Istanbul is not a leading example in this regard; numerous diverse projects have been implemented worldwide. The FSM Bridge is equipped with new technology products known as light-emitting diodes (LEDs). There are a total of 3,250 light sources on the bridge, with 1,760 on the bridge's cables. Given that the lights are visible from kilometers away, they consume very little energy despite the assumption that these diodes use high energy. Diodes that reduce normal energy consumption by 80% have been used. This initiative in our country has spurred businesses and municipalities into action, leading to an increase in new projects. Another factor is that as the prices of new-generation strip LEDs have decreased, costs have further reduced, and the returns have been high. The Eiffel Tower is proof that illumination can be functional and decorative, as well as suitable for areas used for social responsibility or community events.
Other Structures
While the Eiffel Tower's illumination is a significant factor that makes it a symbol of Paris, Paris took a major step by utilizing this in another context. The colors of the Eiffel Tower symbolize various countries, situations, or projects for the French government's social responsibility initiatives. It reflected Turkey with special colors for a week due to the 'Season of Turkey' in France. With the decreasing prices of diodes that have a flexible structure today, projects have increased, and city infrastructure embellishment has risen by taking inspiration from other structures worldwide. The illumination of the pyramids in Egypt, the Acropolis in Athens, or Big Ben in London are structures that are emulated globally. In our country, Big Ben is taken as a basis for illuminating structures along the Bosphorus, pyramids for transparent buildings, and the Eiffel Tower for high-rise buildings. Due to the public's openness to such approaches in our country, projects are rapidly implemented, and cities gain a new identity.
