Why is the Henna Night Celebrated
What is Henna Night
Henna night is a ceremony held the night before the wedding. Henna night, which is an Islamic tradition, is organized to celebrate the marriage of the bride and groom. This ceremony, where henna, which has a special place in Islam, is applied to the bride's and in some regions the groom's hands, is both a fun and a sad ceremony. This ceremony, which is mostly held at the bride's house, shows small differences from region to region, but is essentially the same.
What Happens During Henna Night
Before applying henna, which is believed to protect the couple to be married from evil, the evil eye and envious glances, guests attending the henna night have fun with music. Before henna is applied to the bride, a red veil is placed over her head. Young girls accompany the bride throughout the henna night. The girls, who sing henna songs while circling the bride with a henna tray in their hands, apply henna to the bride's hand after they stop singing. In some regions, women called henna artists are assigned to apply henna. The henna artist applies the henna to the bride's hand by praying. A henna glove is put on the bride's hand. After the henna application ceremony is over, the guests continue to have fun.
