What is Bossaball?

Training is a Must.

Inspired by beach volleyball in Latin America, this sport has become a focus of interest for young people worldwide. It has particularly attracted the attention of volleyball lovers. For some, Bossaball is a fun game, while for others, it is a sport. Bossaball, not yet well-known in our country, is played on an inflatable court. The net is quite high, and there is a trampoline in the middle. Players on both sides try to get the ball over the net with their visual displays. At the same time, loud music playing in the background adds excitement to the game. This sport, played in a festive atmosphere, is not as easy as it looks. Knowing volleyball alone is not enough to play Bossaball. Training is a must beforehand. The style presented by the players in matches, after training in gymnastics, football, and capoeira, offers the audience unforgettable moments.

The First Official Tournament Took Place in Brazil.

Bossaball originated in Brazil in 2001. It was further developed in Spain and became a sport in 2005 by the Belgian Filip Eyckmans. The first official tournament took place in Brazil the same year, and this sport, which has become the new entertainment for young people, is increasingly spreading to many countries worldwide, such as Belgium, Brazil, the Netherlands, Norway, the United Arab Emirates, Greece, and Spain. Turkish youth first encountered Bossaball in 2009. However, it did not receive much attention.

It is Officiated by a Samba Referee.

This game, played on an 18x14 meter trampoline, is managed by a samba referee because its purpose is entertainment. In the match, where two teams consisting of groups of 3, 4, or 5 players face each other, the side that drops the ball onto the opponent's court floor scores points. Scoring is evaluated on a one-point and three-point basis. If the ball falls to the opponent's court floor, it is calculated as one point; if it falls on the trampoline in the middle, it is calculated as three points. The team that collects 25 points in each set of the game, played in three or five sets, wins the match. In each round, a team can make up to eight touches on the ball. A player can hit the ball three times in one round. A player who hits the ball once with their hand can touch the ball two more times if the ball does not go to the other side, but they must touch it with different body parts, such as their head or feet, not with their hand.
